WELCOME TO THE
NEIGHBORHOOD SPONSORED GARDEN
What is the NSG?
The Neighborhood Sponsored Garden (NSG) is the vision of Craig and Patricia Neal, started in 2020 during the pandemic to create neighborhood food sufficiency and stimulate community action during an isolating time. Utilizing several garden boxes and small sections of their yard for growing vegetables and flowers, their NSG has grown over the past four years from providing four families with a weekly garden share throughout the growing season to 13 families (nearly 50 people) this year.
How the NSG works
NSG is a neighborhood shareholder-sponsored garden and urban-CSA that provides fresh vegetables, beautiful flowers, and community programming to its Shareholders. Our mission is to demonstrate that communities can grow and support wholesome food production. Members participate in garden prep, weekly maintenance, community harvesting, and enjoy regular time in the garden.
NSG’s Five Pillars
COMMUNITY
Stimulate healthy, long-term neighborhood involvement and connections in the garden as well as the neighborhood
EDUCATION
Be a collaborative demonstration and learning lab that provides educational opportunities to learn about where our food comes from and how to grow it
CHILDREN
Empower children (the future leaders of our communities and our world) with hands-on experiential garden programs
FOOD SUFFICIENCY
Weekly distribution of fresh organic produce and flowers designed to address the fact that locally grown food is a viable alternative to large-scale agriculture
ZERO WASTE
Show through practice that zero waste* is feasible & imperative environmentally.
